Part 2
Colonel Miller slammed his hand against the console as static roared through the comms. “All units, hold formation!” he barked into the microphone, but only harsh radio silence answered him. Ahead of the convoy, the lead Stryker vehicle sat smoking against a massive, unmapped steel gate that shouldn’t have existed in these isolated Nevada hills.
Specialist Vance leaned forward from the driver’s seat, his face pale under the tactical green ambient lights. “Sir, thermal imaging shows heavy motion behind that gate. It’s not enemy forces… it’s civilian vehicles, dozens of unmarked black SUVs.”
Miller unholstered his sidearm, stepping out into the freezing desert air as fifty infantrymen dismounted with rifles raised. This was supposed to be a routine logistics transport—one hundred armored vehicles moving classified military cargo to an underground depot. But the sealed crate sitting in the back of Miller’s own vehicle bore a serial number registered to a classified civilian contractor, not the Department of Defense.
“Colonel!” Captain Sarah Brooks yelled, running up beside him. “We managed to intercept a local broadcast before the jamming hit. Mainstream news is reporting that our entire unit went rogue three hours ago. Washington issued a shoot-on-sight order against us!”
Miller’s heart hammered against his ribs. Someone high up in the chain of command had set them up. Before he could order a perimeter sweep, the heavy steel gates slowly began to groan open. Inside the brightly lit hangar beyond, standing alone next to an open laptop broadcasting a live feed directly to the Pentagon, was a man Miller recognized instantly—General Vance, his own father, who had supposedly died in action five years ago.
Was this deployment an ambush, or was Colonel Miller brought here to uncover a massive conspiracy within his own government? What do you think was inside that sealed crate? Drop your thoughts in the comments!
