“Who the hell do you think you are touching a senior officer?!” I slammed him against the fire truck, wiping blood from the fresh scar on my cheek. The entire military base gasped in shock when they realized why my F-16 was burning… and what he hid!

My name is Captain Sarah Miller. My callsign is Valkyrie, and I am currently flying an F-16 Fighting Falcon into what should be a guaranteed suicide mission. Right now, my right wing is venting raw jet fuel into the freezing upper stratosphere, and my heads-up display is blinding me with flashing red master emergency warnings. But I don’t care about the catastrophic system failures screaming in my ears. I only care about the twelve heavy enemy bombers currently banking hard toward the coastal horizon.

Less than an hour ago, I was locked in a bitter, physical confrontation in the hangar bay with my commanding officer, Colonel Marcus Vance. He had slammed his heavy hand against my locker door, trapping me against the cold metal frame, his massive frame looming over me. “Listen to me, Miller,” he had spat, grabbing my flight jacket collar and yanked me forward until our eyes were locked. “You might have graduated top of your class at the fighter weapons school, but when real steel hits the sky, women freeze up under pressure. You stay in patrol sector four like you’re told, or I’ll personally strip those wings off your chest and destroy your career.”

Now, those same enemy bombers were less than four minutes away from dropping high-explosive payloads onto a coastal city full of innocent families. The lead interceptor squadron had been completely outmatched and forced to pull out due to low fuel, leaving the entire civilian sky wide open to mass destruction.

“Valkyrie, turn back to grid home immediately!” Vance’s furious voice blared into my helmet headphones over the tactical net. “You are disobeying a direct lawful command from your superior officer!”

“Respectfully, Colonel,” I gritted my teeth, pulling hard on the control stick as the fighter banked sharply into a steep, terrifying dive, “I didn’t earn these flight wings to stand by and watch innocent civilians get slaughtered.”

I jammed the mechanical throttle forward into full afterburner. The sudden burst of raw twin-engine thrust pressed nearly 8G’s onto my chest, stealing the oxygen directly from my lungs. Down below, three enemy Su-35 escort fighters immediately broke their defensive formation and inverted, diving straight up at my single jet with their heavy cannon barrels blazing.

Bright red tracer rounds slashed through the dark night sky, stitching a line of heavy explosive fire across my nose cone. A heavy 30mm cannon round tore directly into my starboard wing structure, violent shockwaves shaking my teeth loose as electrical sparks exploded from my front instrument panel! The stick shook violently in my grip as control cables snapped, sending my jet into an uncontrollable tailspin toward the dark ocean below!

Trapped in a burning jet with enemy missiles locking on, I made a choice that changed everything. But the real enemy wasn’t in the sky above us—it was sitting right in our own command center… The rest of the story is below 👇

Part 2

The world inverted in a dizzying blur of gray clouds and violent centrifugal force as my F-16 spiraled out of control. Ocean and sky swapped places every half-second. Warning alarms chimed frantically in my helmet, reporting a hydraulic failure in the flight controls. My muscles screamed as 9G’s of force dragged my face down toward my knees, blood draining from my brain, blurring my vision with dark gray spots.

“Eject! Valkyrie, eject now!” Colonel Vance’s voice cut through the blaring static, stripped of its usual arrogance and replaced by sudden panic. “You’re in a unrecoverable flat spin!”

“Not… today!” I gasped, forcing my trembling arms forward against the crushing gravity.

I reached down and manually engaged the flight control emergency override, physically wrestling the flight stick with both hands. I slammed the asymmetric thrust pedal all the way to the floorboard. The jet shuddered violently—metal groaning against metal—before the nose snapped upward, biting into the thin air at twenty thousand feet. I pulled out of the dive just three hundred feet above the raging whitecaps of the ocean.

Without breathing, I shoved the throttle back into full afterburner and pitched the jet straight up into the clouds, coming up directly behind the three Su-35s that had just shot me.

“Fox Three!” I screamed into my oxygen mask, pressing the red thumb-button on the flight stick twice.

Two AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles detached from my wingtips with a deafening roar, their rocket motors ignited, leaving twin white streaks across the sky. Four seconds later, two brilliant orange fireballs blossomed in the overcast clouds as the first two enemy fighters disintegrated into flying debris.

The third fighter panicked, pitching up into a hard break-turn. I switched to the infrared Sidewinder, locked onto his glowing exhaust, and fired. The heat-seeker streaked true, severing the enemy jet’s tail section. Three down. Nine to go.

I climbed rapidly, breaking through the top of the cloud deck to spot the main bomber formation. But as my radar swept the sky, my heart dropped into my stomach.

Transmitting on a secure, encrypted frequency, an unfamiliar voice suddenly echoed directly inside my helmet headset—a voice that didn’t belong to enemy forces, nor to my base control.

“Captain Miller,” the smooth, cold voice whispered. “You should have stayed in Sector Four. Your flight path was cleared by Colonel Vance himself.”

My breath hitched. “What did you say?”

“The bombers aren’t an invasion, Captain,” the voice chuckled softly. “They are a distraction. And Colonel Vance was paid five million dollars to ensure Sector Seven’s radar dome remained blind tonight. You were supposed to be our scapegoat.”

A cold wave of shock washed over me. Vance hadn’t ordered me back to protect my life or maintain order—he was actively facilitating the attack! He had deliberately routed the primary squadron away and tried to lock me in Sector Four so the strike force could pass through unhindered.

Before I could process the terrifying betrayal, the radar warning receiver shrieked again. Four enemy fighters dropped out of the sun, surrounding my damaged F-16 in a lethal box formation. My radar missile tracks were jammed, and my weapon bay indicator flashed empty. No more AMRAAMs. No more Sidewinders. Only eighty rounds of 20mm cannon ammunition left in my M61 Vulcan gun.

“Valkyrie, do you read me?” Vance’s voice suddenly re-entered the channel, sounding frantic. “Report status immediately!”

“I know what you did, Vance,” I hissed through my teeth, my thumb switching the weapons selector to the M61 cannon. “And I’m coming back for you after I rip these bombers out of the sky.”

The leading enemy bomber was already lining up its target crosshairs directly over the coastal city’s power grid. With no missiles left, I kicked the rudder pedals hard, steering my damaged, burning F-16 directly into a head-on collision course with the massive lead bomber!
