My name is Sarah Lawson. To the men of the 3rd Battalion, I was the civilian-assigned inventory specialist who kept track of their body armor and crate shipments. None of them knew the truth: I was a Navy SEAL assigned under deep cover to trace high-grade military hardware leaking straight to a ruthless cartel syndicate.
The blast came without warning. An IED detonated under our second transport truck, throwing a cloud of dirt and twisted metal into the sky. Within seconds, automatic fire erupted from the surrounding tree line, turning our route into a killing funnel.
“Take cover! We’re cut off!” Lieutenant Vance shouted over the deafening roar of automatic weapons, but a spray of shrapnel took him down seconds later. Panic surged through the squad. They were young Marines, ambushed in a blind spot, and their chain of command had just been severed.
I didn’t wait for permission. I grabbed the tactical squad radio from the downed lieutenant’s chest, ducking low as bullets shattered the windshield above my head. Switching the frequency to a classified satellite network, I bypassed standard chain-of-command protocols entirely.
“Aegis Actual, this is Sea Wolf,” I barked into the mic, my voice icy calm despite the chaotic explosions around us. “Hostile force has us pinned in Sector 4. Requesting immediate CAS on my signal.”
The radio operator froze for a fraction of a second at the clearance code before responding. But as I cut the transmission, a massive hand grabbed my collar from behind, slamming me brutally against the hot armor plate of the truck…
When the ambush hit, they thought I was just a supply clerk clinging to survival. They had no idea who they were really dealing with. The rest of the story is below 👇
PART 2
I slammed my head backward into my attacker’s face, hearing his nose shatter before I even turned around. The mercenary stumbled back, bleeding profusely, but three more emerged from the dense underbrush, their body armor marked with the red insignia of the iron-fisted cartel syndicate.
Lieutenant Vance was bleeding out beside the front tire, clutching his abdomen. “Lawson… what the hell… who are you?” he choked out, his eyes wide with shock as he saw me handle the rifle with effortless, terrifying precision.
“Focus on staying alive, Lieutenant,” I snapped, dropping behind the rear axle as a stream of lead chewed through the dirt inches from my boots. “I’ll handle the ridge.”
I couldn’t reveal my full directive to him—not yet. My mission wasn’t just to protect this convoy; it was to recover a stolen shipment of prototype thermobaric warheads that had disappeared from a naval depot two weeks ago. The cartel hadn’t just ambushed us by chance; they knew exactly which truck in our convoy carried the dummy tracking crates. There was a mole high up in our logistics command, someone who had set these Marines up as bait.
I squeezed the trigger, taking out two shooters on the eastern slope with single, controlled shots. But as I advanced through the brush, heavy fire from a fortified gun nest on the high ground pinned us down again. The heavy machine gun was tearing through our armor plating like paper. If that gun stayed active, none of us would walk out of this forest alive.
I grabbed two fragmentation grenades from a fallen Marine’s rig. “Cover me!” I yelled to Corporal Jackson, who was cowering behind a tire. He blinked, snapped out of his shock, and began laying down a desperate wall of lead.
I moved like a ghost through the thick brush, staying low, using the rising smoke as cover. Closing the distance to the nest, I vaulted over a fallen log and came face-to-face with a massive mercenary guarding the flank. He swung his heavy rifle butt at my temple. I ducked underneath the blow, drove a tactical knife straight into the gap in his body armor, and used his falling momentum to hurl him over my shoulder into the dirt.
Before his partner could rotate the heavy gun toward me, I pulled the pin on a grenade and dropped it straight into their bunker, diving into a drainage ditch just as the explosion rocked the hillside. Dirt and metal rained down. The heavy fire ceased instantly.
The silence that followed was suffocating, broken only by the crackle of burning brush. I checked the bunker—it was clear. But as I reached down to inspect the dead gunner’s tactical vest, my heart sank.
Pinned to his chest was a encrypted military radio—the exact same model issued exclusively to senior officers inside my own unit headquarters back at Camp Pendleton. The leak wasn’t just a low-level clerk. It was my commanding officer, Colonel Rayburn. He had sent us into this canyon to be slaughtered so the warheads could vanish without a trace.
Suddenly, the radio on the dead mercenary’s chest crackled to life. A familiar, gravelly voice cut through the static: “Team Leader, confirm the supply clerk and the rest of the squad are eliminated. We need those warheads secured now.”
I picked up the transmitter, my knuckles turning white around the grip. “Colonel Rayburn,” I said softly, letting every drop of cold rage leak into my tone. “This is Navy SEAL Sarah Lawson. Your ambush failed. And I’m coming for you next.”
