Harlan grabbed my wrist.<\/p>\n
I released the rock with my other hand, caught his sleeve, and pulled while driving my hooked leg against the rim. His own momentum carried him forward. I rolled onto solid ground as he crashed chest-first into the shale.<\/p>\n
Before he could rise, I trapped his arm behind him and pressed one knee between his shoulder blades.<\/p>\n
\u201cStay down.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dana swung a collapsible training baton toward my head. I ducked, caught her forearm, and redirected the baton into the canyon wall. It clattered into the darkness. I shoved her back without following.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis ends now,\u201d I said. \u201cOwen, tell me who disabled our gear.\u201d<\/p>\n

Then helicopter rotors thundered over the canyon.<\/p>\n
Lieutenant Colonel Maya Torres, the course commander, arrived with a search-and-rescue team. My medical beacon\u2019s primary GPS had been disabled, but the fall at the ravine triggered a separate low-frequency impact signal. The operations center received a three-second burst before Sloane ordered the alert classified as a malfunction. A duty technician bypassed him and called Torres.<\/p>\n

A maintenance specialist recovered locally stored footage from a surveillance drone whose live feed Sloane had disabled. The thermal video showed Harlan and Dana leaving their assigned lane, waiting in the canyon, and surrounding me.<\/p>\n
My repaired radio preserved Sloane\u2019s refusal to send help.<\/p>\n
The evidence also uncovered altered scores from three earlier training cycles and payments between Sentinel Response Group and a consulting company controlled by Sloane\u2019s brother. Harlan\u2019s promised job had never been about merit. My performance had simply made the manipulation impossible to hide.<\/p>\n
Sloane was removed from duty and faced charges under military law. Harlan and Dana were dismissed from the course and investigated for assault, conspiracy, and interference with safety equipment. Dana\u2019s cooperation reduced her consequences but did not erase them. Owen accepted responsibility for sabotage, testified fully, and received disciplinary action.<\/p>\n
I completed treatment for a strained shoulder, deep bruising, and torn hands. A week later, Torres offered me the option to restart the course in another cycle.<\/p>\n
