The key was eventually found taped beneath the bottom drawer of her father\u2019s old drafting desk.<\/p>\n
Inside the box were original manifests, photographs, account numbers, and letters documenting twelve years of corruption. Those records, combined with the federal surveillance and Mercer\u2019s audio, led to multiple indictments.<\/p>\n
The officer who removed our neighbor\u2019s camera system admitted he had destroyed the recording. The district attorney had not known Hollis was alive, but his chief investigator had manipulated evidence and was charged. The state dismissed my case with prejudice, and the Navy formally cleared me after reviewing the evidence.<\/p>\n
Hollis later received a lengthy federal sentence. Several officials pleaded guilty, and cleanup crews began removing contaminated soil from neighborhoods that had been ignored for years. A compensation fund was created for affected families.<\/p>\n
I returned home to Nora under court protection. The bruises faded, but loud knocks still made her flinch. I took extended leave, attended every medical appointment, and learned that protecting someone sometimes means sitting quietly while they rebuild their sense of safety.<\/p>\n
