The investigation lasted six weeks. Engineers compared my simulation data with Dad\u2019s recovered telemetry and handwritten warnings preserved in his files. He had identified the control-law reversal during earlier tests, but a contractor had classified it as pilot input error to protect the prototype schedule.<\/p>\n
On his final flight, the system reversed his corrections during a dual-engine interruption. He had not panicked or abandoned procedure. He had fought a machine responding opposite to its controls until there was no altitude left.<\/p>\n
The Navy amended the accident findings and formally restored his record.<\/p>\n
I stood beneath his photograph when Captain Brennan told me.<\/p>\n
