The lead J-20 rocketed past our nose, banking hard to loop around for the finishing blow. They expected a heavy transport plane to level off and surrender. Instead, I kicked the rudder pedal to the floor, intentionally stalling the giant aircraft to drop straight down into the storm clouds like a lead weight. “Tell that to the wreckage behind us,” I gritted out, wiping a bead of sweat from my eye. “Now track the remaining two!”<\/p>\n
A second explosion rocked our tail. The third J-20 had banked around, firing a short-range heat-seeking missile that clipped our horizontal stabilizer. Shrapnel blew through the rear cargo door, instantly depressurization the cabin. Cold, thin air rushed through the cockpit with a deafening howl. Blood rushed to my ears, the physical toll of extreme high-G maneuvers in an unpressurized cabin threatening to pull me into blackness.<\/p>\n
Marcus reached into his flight jacket, pulling out a small encrypted radio device he had kept hidden in his survival vest. His hands were trembling, but his eyes locked onto mine with a terrifying realization.<\/p>\n
“They aren’t here for the plane, Evelyn,” Marcus confessed, his voice cracked with raw panic as he held the device out. “They\u2019re tracking this transponder. I was ordered to carry classified tactical codes out of Okinawa. They knew our exact flight path because someone inside command leaked it!”<\/p>\n
The revelation hit me like a physical punch. We weren’t ambushed by chance. We were set up to die as part of a treasonous clean-up operation.<\/p>\n
