Ruiz stopped Richard from retreating. Maya handed over her video, already backed up to a secure portal. \u201cThere’s more,\u201d Maya said. \u201cThey prepared the accusation before the flight.\u201d Ruiz showed me an incident report downloaded from Richard’s tablet. It accused me of assaulting Preston and threatening the captain. The filing time was 6:18 p.m.\u2014forty-one minutes before I boarded. Beneath it sat Captain Mitchell’s electronic signature. Mitchell appeared in the doorway, saw the screen, and whispered, \u201cI never signed that.\u201d They had prepared to frame me before I reached the gate.<\/p>\n

Maya recovered it. \u201cThere’s your answer,\u201d she said. \u201cHe was trying to delete the audit trail.\u201d Two more officers arrived and took Richard for questioning. Evelyn Shaw, Global Airways’ CEO, hurried onto the jet bridge. \u201cMr. Hayes,\u201d she said, \u201cI’ve seen Maya’s video. The system logs show Olivia Montgomery instructed Richard to mark you for removal. Richard used the captain’s credentials to pre-file an incident report. We have preserved the originals.\u201d \u201cAnd Preston?\u201d \u201cHis messages asked Olivia to make certain you would be publicly escorted off. He wanted footage of you losing your temper. In the weeks that followed, a court-appointed receiver took control of the Hudson Yards project, protecting workers while stripping Montgomery Development of its authority. Richard and Olivia were fired, and investigators pursued the falsified security report.<\/p>\n

Later that night, I returned to 1A.
