Part 2
Captain Sarah Miller’s knuckles turned white on the flight stick as four Pratt & Whitney engines shrieked at full military power. Sirens screamed across Joint Base Lewis-McChord, painting the night sky in flashing blood-red hues. Base security vehicles raced alongside the massive C-17 Globemaster III, lights flashing, desperately trying to block the runway.
“Tramp 01, abort takeoff immediately! You are not cleared for departure!” tower control barked into her headset.
Sarah ignored the warnings, pushing the throttles past their physical limits. Seconds earlier, a heavily armed unmarked tactical unit had loaded a single, unmarked titanium container into her cargo hold under top-secret orders. Right as the ramp sealed, a conflicting directive flashed on her screen: CANCEL FLIGHT. ARREST CREW.
Instead of powering down, Sarah chose duty over protocol. She pulled back hard on the stick. The 200-ton behemoth lifted off dangerously short, clearing the perimeter fence by mere feet.
Cruising at 35,000 feet into dark airspace, the cockpit fell eerily silent. Co-pilot First Lieutenant James Carter stared at the instruments, his voice trembling.
“Sarah… NORAD is tracking us. We have two F-22 Raptors intercepting. What was in that crate?”
Sarah walked back to the cargo bay. The mysterious container was pulsing with a quiet mechanical hum. Suddenly, the automated digital lock on the crate beeped—changing from red to green, completely unlocked from an unknown remote location. Inside lay encrypted hard drives and a live biometric reader flashing with a high-ranking officer’s name who had officially died three years ago. Before Sarah could react, her cockpit radio crackled with an unsanctioned frequency: “Captain Miller, do not open that hatch if you want to stay alive.”
Was she protecting national security, or had she unwittingly helped steal the country’s deepest military secret? What do you think was inside Crate #814? Sound off in the comments!
